Martin Baerwald was born in Dombrowa, He married Christine (Charlotte)
Martin Baerwald was born in Dombrowa, He married Christine (Charlotte)Wilsdorf. He became a schoolteacher. According to Ewald Wuschke, theEditor of the Wandering Volhynians, the first of the Baerwalds and Wilsdorfs moved to Volhynia in and around 1830 settling in theFredrichsdorf (Solomka) area. From his records, Martin Baerwald leftPoland in 1836 with his wife and five children (one child died nearRosyszcze on the trip) He was joining his widowed mother at Salomka. Whether Johann had come with her and
passed away or she came as a widowwith one of her sons, or, if she had married and was widowed a scond timeis not clear. Martin must also have been a Kuester (lay pastor), becausehe was performing buriels in Freidrichsdorf in 1855. Around 1855 Martin
became a schoolteacher in Sophiewka, north of Kostopol, and his sonLudwig, born in 1837, married Anna Fredekind and he was a teacher atChotinka, Kr. Rowno. Around 1858-62 most of the Baerwald/Fredekind families moved to the Heimtal area with some going to
Mariane/Michaluwka( also called Dermanka. ]The birth records of the children do not conformto Ewald's statements above. It is probable that Martin came muchearlier. The names of the children born in Poland apart from Rosine who was born in 1827, are not
known, but Luise is probable]
